As you know, all cattle are bought by the pound. Early growth to market weight is the only weight that producers are paid for. We believe that you cannot have too much growth as long as that growth is in the "right package". Cattle with extended growth curves "miss the target" and result in cows that require too much feed to do their job. Therefore, in our herd we search for bulls with as much yearling weight as possible, providing we can get the added growth with an acceptable birth weight, adequate milk and practical mature size.

Peak Dot Predominant 92S will be a major player at Peak Dot Ranch to assist in breeding naturally thick, deep-ribbed, easy fleshing cattle that are easy to look at. The dam of Hobson has raised three calves with an average birth ratio of 89 and weaning ratio of 111. Bruno, the sire of Hobson, has been one of the most popular sires. He ranks among the top 1% of proven sires for scrotal EPD, 4% for yearling EPD and 10% for milk EPD, while still remaining positive for both rib-eye area and marbling with kill data EPDs. Capacity calf picture This calving ease bull records a breed leading EPD portfolio and offers as much natural thickness and volume as any other Traveler 004 son to date. At weaning time in September, Carson and Terry picked 5234 as the best bull out of nearly 500 bulls. The day before the sale we went through the bulls again and Clay's number one pick was 5234. Terry says, "This bull could be the best herd bull prospect I have ever seen. Wide in his pins, exceptional width in his quarter, clean sheath, excellent scrotal development, and general disposition." We thought that 5234 and Autograph were the two thickest bulls in Schaff's 2006 sale and in our minds were steady standouts.

Mohnen Jilt 910 Dam of Dynamite 1356 The Lot 1, $39,000 top selling bull from the Mohnen Angus 2007 Production Sale at Platte, SD. sold to Peak Dot Ranch. We purchased this bull for his added performance, depth of body, doability and great scrotal development. He has an excellent disposition and is all black .Dynamite has a big stifle muscle, clean sheath, deep flank and a loose pliable hide like you would find on a good hereford bull. He is sired by Baldridge Kaboom a bull that consistently sires attractive, thick made cattle that are easy to look at with great feet and leg structure. Dynamite's dam Mohnen Jilt 910 is solid black with an exceptional udder and long hip. She has generated over $100,000 in progeny in the last two years. She serves in the Mohnen embryo donor program. She is also the dam of Genex sire Mohnen Day Ahead 144 and Mohnen Pioneer 1945. This past summer they're was a delegation of breeders from Australia that spent 20 days touring angus herds in the United States. At the end of their tour they held a meeting- they listed Mohnen Jilt 910 as one of the top 5 cows they had seen. Dynamite is currently being collected at Dakota Breeders in Mitchell, SD. He froze 70 straws of semen on his first jump. As soon as a large enough bank of semen has been collected, he will return to Peak Dot Ranch where he will see heavy service.
